In the Mountains of Madness was a compilation of personal songs written by Turner without a running narrative or theme. I wanted to help Turner create a connecting fiber that would tie the songs together as an album and build upon his heartfelt work.

Inspired by the title (In the Mountains of Madness), Turner and I decided to create an image for the cover that imagined the album as though it took place in a surreal fictional world. Each song could then take on a dual meaning as not only a vignette of Turner’s life, but also a piece of his story inside “The Mountains of Madness.”

The final album art depicted a character about to embark into this strange and mysterious place with features of the world inspired by song titles such as “Green Sunrise,” “Pyramid,” “Hourglass,” & “Red Sunset.” I designed the typography for the album to reflect the power and wisdom of this place as well as its strangeness.
