Whats Wrong
Role
Motion Graphics & Merch Design
Brief
What’s Wrong were interested in preparing for a tour with a bold stage backing to support their live performance and new merch designs that would expand their offerings beyond a logo.
The band was interested in referencing the sci-fi aesthetic of the game Marathon and wanted to continue to use the likeness of a woman as a central focus for the designs.
Creative Direction
I designed an aesthetic for the project that mixed the digital textures, dense details, and cosmic themes of sci-fi (Marathon especially) with the aggressive type and imagery of metal music. The collision of these two design spaces contrast each other nicely for the designs, with the structure and form of sci-fi being disrupted by the organic and explosive aesthetics of metal.
Tying in dramatic female figures then brought a resonant element of humanity to the designs and grounded them in the reality the band sits in.
